Jindalee Estate
 |
Location: Geelong
James Halliday Rating: 4 stars
Jindalee Estate wines was established in Geelong in late 1997 by brothers Vince and David Littore. It uses fruit grown from their vineyards in Mildura where, with in excess of 1,400 acres, they are have one of the largest viticultural land holdings in the Murray Darling region.
Because of Geelong's ability to produce great wines, its proximity to Melbourne and a strong family connection the search began for a suitable property to call "home". After a number of months Idyll Winery and Vineyard was purchased and in July 1999 Jindalee Estate Geelong was formed.
The "Idyll" property has a great history with the former owners being the first people to plant vines in Geelong after the industry was wiped out in the late 1800's by the grapevine aphid, phylloxera. The vines are the oldest in the region and some of the most significant in Victoria.
